    Tsunami

Use a weather radio or stay tuned to a local radio or television station to keep informed of local warnings
You should avoid building or living in buildings within 200 meters of the high tide coastline
High, multi-storied, reinforced concrete hotels are located in many low-lying coastal areas. The upper floors of these hotels can provide a safe place to find refuge should there be a tsunami warning and you cannot move quickly inland to higher ground
Most tsunami waves are less than 3 meters. Elevating your houses will help reduce damage to your property from most tsunamis
Talk to your insurance agent - homeowners’ policies may not cover flooding from a tsunami. Ask the insurance agent about the benefits from muti-hazard insurance schemes
You should find out if your home, school, workplace or other frequently visited locations are in tsunami hazard areas along sea-shore
Plan evacuation routes from your home, school, workplace or any other place you could be where tsunamis present a risk
If you feel the ground shake after becoming aware an earthquake has occurred, make for high ground immediately
There are no warning sign-suddenly the ocean just appears. However, a change in the sea level at the coast (check markers such as rocks and unusual water lines) is indicative that something isn’t right
Recovery - Shelter, water for drinking and sanitation, first aid and medicine, disease prevention
Response - Avoid water borne debris - it poses a hazard to people and boats
Response - Save yourself and your family - don’t try to save possessions
Response - Await official clearance before returning to any evacuated area; more powerful secondary waves are likely
